6/2008 Louisville Music News Review of West 28th Street
"Don't be surprised if you start applauding at the end of West 28th Street. It just means that Brigid Kaelin has done her job. And once again, she and Big Red have done it well." -Tim Roberts
5/14/2008 LEO Weekly Review of West 28th Street
"The entire album is filled with such emotional honesty and glimpses into a left-of-center view of the world that is refreshing and endearing, all delivered in a stripped-down, Americana-meets-pop (with an occasional dash of jazz) style. There’s not a bad track in the bunch," -Kevin Gibson
5/10/2008 Elvis Costello and Brigid Kaelin Concert review in Courier Journal "Elvis Costello has always had a gift for finding the perfect collaborators, from Nick Lowe to George Jones to Burt Bacharach. But he had to come to Louisville to find a flaming redhead prodigious on both the accordion and musical saw. That would be Brigid Kaelin, who managed to steal at least a little of Costello's show Wednesday at the Louisville Palace -- if not a little of his heart. Diana Krall might want to watch her back." - Jeffrey Lee Puckett

interview with Brigid Kaelin
Excerpt: "From Louisville to NYC to Nashville, Brigid
Kaelin has played it all. Brigid took a minute with us to give insight
on her style, her background and her thoughts about the city. With a nationwide
schedule this summer and a European tour in July, the lucky people of
Louisville have a chance to see her here before all of the madness begins..."
2/8/2008 Backseatsandbar
Music Blog, review of Brigid Kaelin/ Ben Sollee show.
Excerpt: "When I got to the venue, the place was absolutely packed.
Every seat was taken & the walls were lined with kids. It was encouraging
to see this number of people showing up for a cellist & a Nashville
girl in Louisville.... Brigid started her first song of the set called
“Whiskey in the Faucet” and it was pure and fun Nashville
alt-rock. What Brigid could do that so many can’t though is show
her broad range, playing guitar, piano, accordion, yodeling and even a
hand saw on Over the Rainbow. Not to mention she was much jazzier than
I’d realized."

Live on Fox in
the Morning, as a celebrity judge on "Kentuckiana Idol."
1/28/2008 ConsumingLouisville.com
Excerpt:" Brigid Kaelin is a brilliant musician and I'm terribly
proud that we in Louisville get to call her our own. She's also the artist
behind the video "Dreidel's Day Out" which was one of my favorite
things this past holiday season."
12/31/2007 Brigid Kaelin voted #33 on WFPK's Greatest Artists
of All Time.
John Prine is
#34. Bob Dylan is #29. Elvis Costello is #9.
This was especially exciting because there was no grassroots write-in
campaignt; Brigid legitimately received enough votes!
12/16/2007 Review
of Label X Showcase from BackseatSandbar
Excerpt:" I had never seen Brigid Kaelin, but you can now consider
me a big fan. Kaelin, like the whiskey she loves, was warm, smooth and
aged in good ole Kentucky.... Brigid’s finale was perhaps the highlight
of the entire showcase. It started with a mild yodeling exhibit, but morphed
into a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” "
12/14/2007Courier
Journal Label X Holiday Showcase article
Excerpt: "Kaelin is this year's surprise star attraction.
Her honky-tonk Hanukkah single 'Mazel Tonk!' backed with 'Blue Dreidel
No. 9' has been getting national airplay, and she's been interviewed on
most of our local radio and TV talk shows."
12/7/2007 Review
of "Mazel Tonk!" in Courier Journal
Excerpt: "Louisville's Brigid Kaelin does it right
with "Mazel Tonk!" a two-stepper about a Jewish girl trying
to reconcile her heritage and honky-tonk music. It's classic Kaelin —
fun, clever, free of irony and loaded with accordion. The flip side, "Blue
Dreidel No. 9," lets her get her yodel on Jimmie Rodgers style."

Weekly "Challah Back Girl: Brigid Kaelin releases Chanukah single"
Excerpt: Louisville singer/songwriter Brigid Kaelin has
a little something for the country Jews this Chanukah: her single "Mazel
Tonk" celebrates those eight days of presents and blue Christmas
lights ("while you wait for Old Saint Nicholas / I eat Chinese food,
drink Manischewitz") with Kaelin's signature accordion and endearing
voice. And catch her showing off her yodeling skills on the B-side, "Blue
Dreidel No. 9."
11/2007 Velocity
Weekly "Brigid Kaelin offers Chanukah Songs"
Excerpt: "I love it when Louisvillians invent genres.
Brigid Kaelin is offering two new singles she's dubbed "jewgrass,"
just in time for Hanukkah. The first is "Blue Dreidel No. 9,"
which features some intense yodeling. The other is "Mazel Tonk,"
which is as funny as it sounds."
11/2007 Mainstreamisntsobad.blogspot.com "Rockin' Menorah"
Excerpt:"Both of these songs are from Louisville artist Brigid Kaelin,
who's just signed to Label X with whom she's working on her sophomore
release (scheduled to come out early next year). She's dubbed these tracks'
genre as "Jewgrass" (her words, not mine!), and they've certainly
got that down home sort of feelin' to them! Jews and non-Jews alike -
listen and rejoice!" |
